I Don't Mind Feeding Squirrels, But.......

I feed the Downy Woodpeckers and Chickadees all winter, and of course the Gray and  Fox squirrels.

I don't mind the squirrels raiding the feeder, they drop out of the pine tree onto the feeder, balance there and help themselves to the suet or sunflower seeds in the tube.

What I do mind is when the suet cage gets light enough for them to lift it off the sheperd's crook and drop it unto the ground.

Usually, I find the cage under the bush in the spring.

This year I checked both spring and autumn when I was cleaning up the yard.

Nothing. I can't find the cage.

I had to buy a new one.

Now the cage is chained to the the crook and even if lifted off it will either hang there or drop to the bottom.

Problem solved, until the squirrels figure out a new plan.
